Q) What was your first job?
A) My first real job (we are definitely not counting my Bingo days here!) was in the hotel management industry. I always wanted to work in a hotel but my parents did not allow me to work at the local motel for reasons that I understood much later. Therefore, I pursued my studies in the travel industry and started my career in hotel management. I even had the chance to work at Club Med in the Bahamas!
A few years later, I made a change in my career and became a district manager in the retail industry managing 9 retail stores throughout Quebec. More importantly, I’m now proudly heading into my 6th year working for the Medisys family!
Q)What is it about occupational health and safety that you find interesting?
A) I love the challenges that working in occupational health and safety offers on a daily basis. Every day is different! Every patient, every client, every situation is unique and our role as occupational health and safety providers is to deliver the Horizon standard of excellent service and medical care. An occupational health assessment might look like a routine medical exam to some, but really we are contributing at a healthier population in a preventative fashion. I’m proud to be working in an organization that gets to influence the health of the population in such a positive way.
Q)Tell us about an experience you’ve had where you felt that you made a significant positive impact on the patient or client organization.
A) I feel that everything we do, when it comes to impacting the lives and health of patients, is a team effort. Every action that we take, every decision that we make as a company influences the patient’s day to day experience. One of the direct ways that we impact the lives of patient is through the quality of the work that we deliver. The devil’s in the details! We are mandated to deliver our service in a timely manner with the highest quality standard in the country. It’s with a continuous effort that we work towards our goals by applying the company’s values and surpassing our objectives.
Q)What is the most important piece of health advice that you give most patients?
A) Living a healthy lifestyle is a priority in my life. I love eating healthy (mostly plant based) and I’m trying to avoid processed food as much as I can. I exercise 3-5 times a week, I’m a volleyball addict! I guess my advice would be; don’t take your health for granted and invest in it on a daily basis.
